Did you get guitar lessons or did it just come naturally to you? I got one guitar lesson but then I kept playing while the guy was talking and he got really angry and me so then I quit. I pretty much taught myself. I pretty much whatever I like the sound of and that's what I stuck to. I use the guitar as a song writing thing really.
What would you do with ten million dollars? I'd think about it very carefully. I'd probably buy some new guitars. I'd build a studio and give some money away to someone who needed it, I just haven't decided who yet!
How did you learn so much about production? Just by doing it. When we started out we were in Feilding and so far away from everything and so we weren't near any studios or anything so to get the band recorded I had to do it myself and so I really enjoyed it and it became something I put time into and focused on. I guess when you're forced into having to do something it's great motivation. When you don't have a choice you just work out how to do it.
Being with your brothers all the time do you have your normal differences of opinion? Yeah we do. Its funny if one of us likes a song and the other one hates it, it's kind of an unusual situation. It doesn't happen very often. So then we'll have this huge discussion about why someone hates it. We try and work out what one person likes and what the other one doesn't. We have difference of opinion on all kinds of things.. but musically, if one person really likes something and the other doesn't its kinda like.. what's going on? So we try and work out what's good about it and what's bad about it. We have difference of opinion on all kinds of things, but nothing that's going to break up the band.
Why did you first move to Sydney and not Melbourne? We had family here in Sydney and our manager was here and we hadn't spent much time in Melbourne back then but we had spent a fair bit of time in Sydney.
Are you guys making a new album and what will be different about it? I think everything will be different about it. We have started writing a fair few new songs and we're trying to get more of them into the live show at the moment. It's hard to play new songs when you're on a tour though, because you don't have time to rehearse them. Hopefully by the end of the tour we'll have 2 or 3 more new ones. It's very different sounding but it's quite hard to put it into a box and say 'this it what it sounds like', so I guess people will just have to come along and have a listen.
What's your thought on regional tours? I think they're good. I guess if we just played cities it Getting out into small towns we play heaps more shows, people out there are there for a good time. They're not out there and like I only like this type of band. Anything vaguely fun, they'll come and see. Regional tours, smaller shows outside of the cities the crowd are definitely a lot more drunk.
How do you keep yourself entertained while you're driving on tour? We come up with weird sayings and stuff. We have discussions about different bands and things. It's a mixture, sometimes I'll just try and fall asleep. On the really long drives we go out of our minds a bit coz the conversations just get weirder and weirder
You all cite Dylan as a major influence, which Dylan songs or albums have the most impact on you? My favourite Dylan song is called 'Masters of war' and probably my favourite album is one called 'Oh Mercy' which is actually from the 90s. All his music is an acquired taste though.
What's the best live show you've ever seen? Probably it's a toss up between that Bob Dylan show I just saw and seeing Muse in Melbourne probably.
What inspires you to write your songs? I'm not
sure really.. it's different every time. Usually just life, I don't
even know if I could stop writing songs if I had to.
To you guys as a band what do you find more important when writing a song the lyrics or the instrumental section? I'm a bit more focused on the music than the other guys, but I hate hearing a good song with bad lyrics.. which seems to be happening a lot these days. I like lyrics that actually mean something as opposed to ones that pretend to mean something.
Do you wash your hair on a regular basis? Yeah
it just looks like this no matter what i do..
Out of Holdens and Fords which one would you rather?
Personally I'm more of a Lamborghini kind of guy. A guy on our street
once had this car he was constantly trying to fix, it would sometimes
make it about half way down the street.. he had written JUST (HOLDEN)
TOGETHER on the back so I'll go with that.
Who is your favourite Beatle? If you were one Beatle, which one would you be? I guess I'd be Ringo.. because hes still alive and was never married to crazy one legged woman.
Have you ever seen the movie 'The Labyrinth'? Did you enjoy David Bowie's acting in that? Yeah the tights are a bit scary.. I saw the making of and it was actually another guys arm twirling the glass balls.
Do you still wear those boots you wore on the Running video clip? No I lost them actually. They were a big mistake though, the sole had no give in them at all and running full pelt in heeled boots for two weeks gives you some killer blisters.
If you could pick any decade to travel to which decade would you choose? why? Its a toss up between the 60's and 70's.. so much good music.
How do you feel about the fact that 'Evermore' essentially made a huge name for itself through the television show, The O.C? As far as I'm concerned we got well known because people liked our songs, so I really couldn't care less if they heard it on the radio, at a gig, on a TV show or wherever.
