How did Africa change you? Africa was really interesting. It gave you heaps of conflicting emotions instead of.. like half my brain had a really good time and met some amazing people and it was like 'wow! I could live here'. They were all so cool and the kids were all musicians and it was a lot of fun because every minute you have people singing and harmonising and stuff but also theres a lot of supression and sad things happening and there's a breakdown of society. It's weird coz you don't know what to do part of you wants to go hands on and hand out aid or whatever but then you sort of go and realise you know, you can't just stop just stop what you're doing. Well maybe you can, but it's like trying to sort out what you can do and just working it all out. I think it changed my opinion on what poverty is and also that's probably what changed me I guess, and I think that when you get back from Africa you kinda learn to enjoy life and you realise how luck you are.
If you could change the band name what would it be? I'd change it to um.. When we were originally trying to get signed one record company said we had to change our name because at the time there was another band in America who was looking of promising with the same name. So they said send us a couple of names a day and I got a really angry email from one of the head bosses because we started not taking it seriously and one of the band names we sent in was really dirty but we just thought it was a funny thing. So if I could change it now I'd change it to something with dirty in it? I reckon band names are so important though.
Do you ever go to Timezone? When we lived in NZ I used to go there for birthday parties and stuff. But I cant say I'm much of a gamer. Sports car games I kinda enjoy coz if there's a sports car involved its kind of ok
What do you plan on doing for the big 20? Well if my birthday's tomorrow I don't really have any plans yet. I must just go to a nice restaurant you know, get someone to pay for me. I might just wear the birthday suit though, that'll be my gift to the world.
Out of all the reality tv shows which show would you most like to participate in? Part of me wants to have a go in Idol, but I'd go on as a suicide bomber and just explode the whole show. I'd need to think about it. Maybe big brother and not be obnoxious like everyone else would be. I think I'll go Australian Idol, to show how badly I could go and that'd be the whole point to the show. I'll go and audition with some Alicia Keys song.
What do you want to accomplish in your life before you'll give yourself a pat on the back? I'd need a bigger arm to really give myself a good pat on the back. I've given myself a few pats on the back so far. I just want to keep on making music, that's my only real ambition. Keep making music in different forms and keep learning, and keep making it in lots of different forms. Hopefully one day I'll make some music that'll really excite people as much as music excited me when I was a kid
Do you ever hear a song on the radio and wish you had made that song? Yeah there are a few song lyrics I like. I love the song fire and sun by cat stevens. I also wish that I wrote, a song like Stand By Me or you know… one of those. Actually maybe, more on a sort of demonic level I wish I'd written like 'Sexyback' or something so I'd made lots of money.
Do people treat you differently because you're the youngest in the band? I don't really go about totting my age but I think a lot of musicians when we were young didn't taken us very seriously but, I think most musicians are pretty good. I think it's more about our roles than how old we all are.
Can you ballroom dance? Rougly…ish. In that endearing charming way, not a professional way.
Who is the ultimate crime fighting duo? Scooby Doo and Shaggy, Batman and Robin or Mel and Kochy? It's definitely more about Batman. Scooby Doo is cool but he's a bit to psychadelic. Mel and Kochy.. I dunno… they're not exactly going to fight terrorism or something.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
For a little while I thought the best job would be testing video
games and then after that I just wanted to be a musician. I definitely
wanted to be a cartoonist at one point.

Most memorable moment from a live show? A girl once jumped onstage and started humping Jon's leg for at least a whole verse of 'Come To Nothing'. There was no security! It was so funny... i could hardly keep playing!
What song/album are you most proud of and why? I think Light Surrounding You is the best song i've written that we've released... I've got better ones in the oven though.
What do you miss most about NZ? The feeling of better completely unaffected by the world around you.
Best show you've ever played? Sydney Big Day Out 07. No doubt.
Pet hate? Headphone cables. I'm pretty incapable of getting angry in any situations except an annoying headphone cable. Calm thoughts, Dann....
Whats the one question you want to be asked and what is the answer to that question? Like all heterosexuals, I want to be asked "Will you marry me" by Scarlett Johansson. The answer would be "Yes, mam."
Best advice anyone's ever given you? One good advice i was given was "Don't read any reviews of anything you ever do." It's hard though, people are constantly showing them to you.
If you weren't in a band, you?d be? Milking cows, Sheering sheep, Married with 3 kids, and sporting a heinous moustache.
Best gig you've ever attended? The Living End - Pyramid Rock NYE 06/07. I jumped the middle of the mosh-pit with a girl and went quite retarded. They were so tight.
